City, county or state road: why it matters
Who you call about a driveway permit depends on who maintains the road in front of your property, not just your mailing address.
- Greenville County roads: a driveway approach permit comes from County Public Works (864-467-7016). On county roads without a curb, the apron in the right-of-way must be asphalt.
- Inside a city’s limits: the city’s own rules and offices apply.
- State (SCDOT) roads: work in the state right-of-way needs an SCDOT encroachment permit.
Our Greenville driveway permit guide explains how to find out which applies to you.
