Price tiers
| Tier | What’s included | Installed cost per sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | One pattern, uniform color, no border | $8–$13 |
| Mid-range | Two or more colors, more than one pattern, custom border | $13–$19 |
| High-end | Multi-color layers, several or custom patterns, hand-carved detail | $19–$26+ |
| Stamped overlay on existing concrete | 1/4 to 3/4 inch layer over a sound slab | $7–$15 |
Where does the money go? HomeGuide breaks a typical job into concrete materials ($2–$6 per sq ft), labor ($3–$9) and stamping and coloring ($3–$4).
Stamped patio cost by size
National 2026 installed prices for a 4- to 6-inch slab, excluding excavation and prep:
| Patio size | Area | Installed cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10×10 ft | 100 sq ft | $800–$1,900 |
| 12×12 ft | 144 sq ft | $1,150–$2,750 |
| 10×20 ft | 200 sq ft | $1,600–$3,800 |
| 16×16 ft | 256 sq ft | $2,000–$4,850 |
| 20×20 ft | 400 sq ft | $3,200–$7,600 |
| 25×30 ft | 750 sq ft | $6,000–$14,250 |
A two-car stamped driveway (20×20 ft) runs about $4,800–$7,200; walkways about $10–$21 per square foot.
One local data point: Upstate contractor Virtue Concrete lists a 320 sq ft stamped patio at $5,500–$8,500 in its 2026 price portfolio.
How pattern and color change the price
- One pattern, one color is the base price.
- Each extra color (an antiquing release, a second base color, hand-applied accents) adds labor and material, moving the job into the mid-range tier.
- Borders and accent bands add forming and a second pattern.
- Hand-carved stone detail and multiple patterns are high-end work, done by skilled finishers.
- Prep: removing old concrete ($3–$8 per sq ft), regrading ($0.40–$2.00 per sq ft) and a gravel base add to any tier.
What stamped concrete costs to keep up over 10 years
Stamped concrete needs resealing every two to three years to stop the color fading. At $1–$3 per square foot, that adds up:
| Patio | One reseal | Over 10 years (3–5 reseals) |
|---|---|---|
| 12×12 ft (144 sq ft) | $144–$432 | about $430–$2,160 |
| 20×20 ft (400 sq ft) | $400–$1,200 | about $1,200–$6,000 |
Doing it yourself costs less, but a contractor will clean properly and can add slip-resistant grit to the sealer.

Weighing pavers? Basic stamped concrete ($8–$13 per sq ft) usually costs less to install than pavers ($10–$17), but pavers are easier to repair. Our pavers vs. stamped concrete guide compares them in full.
How to save
- Choose one pattern and one or two colors; most of the look, far less labor.
- Stamp the main patio and keep walkways broom-finished.
- Consider a stamped overlay if your existing slab is sound.
- Plan the size once. Extending later means a seam and a second mobilization.
